Crai’s passion is writing about and photographing outdoor adventures like “Connecting with Temagami” (Explore), in which he described a northern Ontario canoe expedition. The story received a North American Travel Journalists Association 2025 “Illustrated Story” (words + images) award, and 2025 “U.S. & North America Travel Feature” and “Adventure Travel Feature” awards from the Society of American Travel Writers. His “Starry, Starry Nights at Dark Sky Preserves” (Saturday Evening Post) received a 2025 Lowell Thomas Award for Environmental & Sustainable Journalism.

Crai contributes over 75 branded content stories a year for Hearst Story Studio. He also writes content for the Seattle Times and several other outlets. These stories include research, interviews, headlines, SEO keywords, composition and links.

Crai creates branding material for several Fortune 500 companies including Microsoft, Intel, and Expedia. He created the brand guides, including creative lead, research and writing, for Bronco for the Ford Motor Company and C.C. Filson & Co. Often called upon to contribute creative direction, he scripts videos, composes speeches for c-level executives and produces taglines, case studies and full marketing campaigns. 

Crai has also appeared regularly as travel commentator on KUOW (NPR), American Forces Network and Rick Steves’ Travel, where he is the Canadian travel expert. His television appearances include Q13 Fox, WGN Chicago, WPIX New York and The Los Angeles Times. 

Crai frequently speaks about the travel writing life throughout North America, including Columbia J School, Canada Media Marketplace and Society of American Travel Writers. He has consulted about destination and product messaging with numerous tourism offices and visitor bureaus.

Crai's humor books have sold over 500,000 copies and been translated into multiple languages. He contributed four chapters to Fodor’s “Vancouver-Victoria” (2010) and is profiled in the bestselling book of portraits, “Seattle 100: Portrait of a City – Voices that Matter.”
